Overview

An opportunity is available for a Substation Protection & Control Engineer to join a utility-focused engineering team delivering high-voltage transmission and substation projects. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with strong expertise in protection and control design across medium to extra-high voltage systems.

You will be responsible for delivering detailed engineering design packages and supporting project execution from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform protection and control (P&C) engineering design for utility substations and transmission systems (69kV-500kV)
  • Develop detailed engineering deliverables including single-line and three-line diagrams
  • Produce AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection panel layouts
  • Prepare relay logic diagrams, cable schedules, conduit layouts, and bills of materials
  • Support design of protection schemes including line, transformer, bus, and breaker failure protection
  • Coordinate P&C designs with physical substation and transmission engineering teams
  • Review client specifications, standards, and industry codes for compliance
  • Participate in design reviews, project planning, and engineering execution activities
  • Provide technical input during client and internal project meetings
  • Support site walkdowns, constructability reviews, and field engineering activities
  • Assist with quality assurance and technical review of engineering deliverables

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in protection and control engineering for utilities
  • Strong experience producing substation protection and control design documentation
  • Solid understanding of protection schemes and relay applications
  • Familiarity with industry standards including NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEC
  • Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or working towards licensure preferred
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and coordination abilities within multidisciplinary teams
