Overview

An opportunity is available for a Relay Settings Engineer to join a specialist power systems engineering team delivering protection and control solutions across transmission and substation projects. This role focuses on the development, coordination, and validation of protective relay settings for complex utility networks.

You will work across multiple projects, providing technical leadership in protection studies, relay configuration, and coordination analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop protective relay settings for microprocessor relays (SEL, GE, ABB and others)
  • Configure settings for transmission line protection schemes including line differential, distance, and pilot protection
  • Develop relay settings for substation equipment including transformers, capacitor banks, and bus protection
  • Conduct short circuit and coordination studies using Aspen OneLiner and/or PSS CAPE
  • Use relay configuration tools such as SEL AcSELerator QuickSet and GE EnerVista
  • Interpret protection and control schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Develop and implement relay logic for protection schemes
  • Perform QA/QC checks on engineering deliverables
  • Support multi-project delivery and manage competing priorities
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and delivery barriers
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior engineers
  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and resource management

Requirements

  • Strong experience in protective relay settings for transmission and substation systems
  • Hands-on experience with SEL, GE, ABB or equivalent relay platforms
  • Experience with line protection and station protection schemes
  • Proficiency in short circuit and coordination studies
  • Experience using Aspen OneLiner and/or PSS CAPE
  • Experience with SEL AcSELerator and GE EnerVista software
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Strong understanding of protection and control schemes and relay logic development
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Strong QA/QC capability for engineering deliverables
  • Leadership experience including mentoring and resource management
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
