Ex Technician (Ex Specialist/Inspector)

Accountabilities

During the onshore commissioning phase on yard, the EX Tech will assist the Field Operations Lead for:

  • Updating and confirming EX Registered.
  • Following all Pre-Comm activities on EX equipment.
  • The review of the Electrical related Operational Test Procedures (OTPs).
  • The execution of the Electrical related OTPs.
  • The execution of the Electrical related commissioning (loop test, function test...).
  • The preparation of the black start procedures and the operation of various electrical equipment.

The EX Tech will accommodate with the project on the offshore temporary accommodation. He will follow the commissioning activities as Field Operation representative on Electrical matters.

In close collaboration with the Operating Authority on site (OTL) and the Commissioning Site Leader (CSL), he will:

  • Assist the production team during commissioning activities on Electrical scopes.
  • Assist the production team to ensure safe first power up.
  • Ensure good preparation of the electrical related start-up procedures leading to the first oil.
  • Ensure a role of advisor with the Major project team to ensure the proper preparation first power-up.

Activities

  • Identify in conjunction with EX Supervisor the procedures and precautions to be taken, to provide a safe place for the intended start-up activities.
  • Finalize a detailed power-up sequence in close collaboration with Start-Up Supervisor and core field operation crew on site.
  • Participate and assist in the preparation of the kick off meeting for power-up activities.
  • Participate in the preparation of the risk assessment of the activities to be performed during the start-up.
  • Liaise with the Field Operations Lead on the main site to coordinate the progress of the power-up.
  • Contribute to updating the start-up monitoring tools as required with the Field Operations Lead.
  • Take part in every Permit To Work meeting related to power-up and Electrical related commissioning activities.
  • Witness the Electrical related Operational Tests performed by the commissioning and liaise with the field operation team.
  • Assist Start-Up Supervisors to prepare the request and order for required power-up tools. Ensure proper storage and identification of the power-up tools.
  • Check EX and Electrical B and C punch list and investigate on it if requested by the Field Operations Lead, the OTL or the OIM.
  • Advise Start-Up Supervisor with the list of inhibition and isolation with the associated certificates and risk assessment properly signed and validated by the relevant persons.
  • On Electrical matters, participate in Hazid, JSA and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews of new facilities.
  • Contribute to the Incident Free initiative on site by reporting any anomaly, defect, bad practice, lack of equipment or lack of competence.
  • Review and follow-up the implementation of corrective actions following shutdown during start-up, and communicate with vendor.
  • Make available key documents from project regarding new facilities to field operation team.
  • Ensure all operators on site are well aware of the new safety system and process upgrades brought by the project.
  • Maintain local signage and barriers adapted to the situation over time with special attention to the boundaries of the SimOps area, the exit walkways and scaffolds.
  • Assist the teams with procedures for electrical isolations and de-isolations.
  • Suggest improvements and request modifications if Operating Procedures are not satisfactory.

All staff must be willing to participate in crisis response training and to assist during emergency response situations if required.

Context and Environment

Position will be full time onshore work during construction in yards in Qingdao, China. Offshore rotation during HUC.

Travel between sites can be necessary. During the offshore phase work will be on rotation 28 days / 28 days offshore Al Shaheen Field.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Education and relevant experience:

  • Education: higher national diploma or certificate (equivalent to A-levels + 2 years' study).
  • Industry experience: minimum 5 years' experience in oil and gas production operations.

Technical, personal and / or linguistic competencies:

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining good relations with colleagues and others.
  • Proven sense of operational responsibility for EX equipment, with courage to intervene and challenge.
  • Qualified EX inspector (Compex certified).
  • Previous experience with offshore operations, Electrical scopes and EX inspections.
  • Willing to work flexible shifts and extended shifts as required.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Computer literate.

Professional or HSE certifications:

  • Basic firefighting.
  • T-BOSIET, H2S training OPITO approved.
  • PTW training and JSA awareness relevant to the operating environment.
  • Hazard and Energy control Lockout and Tagout awareness.
