Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Gijón, Asturias, Spain (Hybrid – remote work with business travel as required)
Contract: Initial contract until December 31, 2025, with an expectation of extension

About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team, supporting the design and implementation of electrical systems for a greenfield industrial project. The successful candidate will work closely with EPCM partners and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with international (IEC) and Spanish electrical standards, while optimizing system performance, reliability, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- EPCM Lead: Act as the primary point of contact for daily technical discussions with EPCM partners regarding project progress and design challenges.
- Electrical System Design: Develop electrical systems based on global and local project requirements, including HV/LV power distribution, substations, grounding, MCC, UPS, lighting, and lightning protection.
- Technical Documentation Review: Evaluate and approve schematics, wiring diagrams, and other design documents to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work with mechanical, instrumentation & control (I&C), operations, and process teams to develop integrated solutions.
- Material & Component Selection: Identify and specify appropriate materials and components to meet project requirements.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs adhere to IEC and Spanish electrical safety codes, integrating HAZOP and SIL best practices where applicable.
- Optimization & Cost Efficiency: Propose and implement improvements to enhance performance and reduce costs, leveraging global engineering standards.
- Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) & Field Inspections: Participate in FAT testing and site inspections to verify system integrity before deployment.
- Stakeholder Communication: Prepare reports and deliver technical presentations to management and operations teams.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical design, testing, and system integration.
- Strong expertise in HV/LV energy systems, substation automation, MCC, UPS, and power distribution.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, EPLAN, and other electrical design software.
- Familiarity with Siemens PLC and DCS control systems.
- Deep understanding of IEC and Spanish electrical standards.
- Experience in chemical or metal refining plants is a plus.
- Knowledge of HAZOP and SIL safety principles.
