Job Title: Barge Superintendent
Department: Offshore, Abu Dhabi

Job Purpose

In charge of the general administration and overall supervision of the barge across multiple projects (small to mega-sized), ensuring safety of personnel and equipment, compliance with client/contractual requirements, and efficiency of operations.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensure all activities comply with the Barge Management Manual and applicable procedures/specifications.

  • Represent NPCC on the barge, liaising with client representatives and NPCC management.

  • Obtain necessary clearances/work permits before mobilization/demobilization and coordinate barge readiness with the base office.

  • Review anchor patterns, field charts, and marine specifications to ensure correct barge setup.

  • Monitor field operations including barge entry, anchor operations, stinger & stern extension installation, crane operations, and marine spread coordination.

  • Oversee maintenance of all barge equipment and recommend upgrades/modifications in consultation with Chief Engineer.

  • Coordinate surveys and certifications with Fleet Management/Asset Integrity Engineers.

  • Participate in management meetings regarding barge administration, equipment, recruitment, and operational strategies.

  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement mitigation measures in accordance with HSE procedures.

  • Compile activity reports and discuss work progress/issues with client counterparts.

  • Plan and schedule barge construction activities with Foremen and Field Engineers to optimize production.

  • Monitor catering and welfare services for barge personnel.

  • Ensure adherence to HSE procedures, conduct toolbox talks, fire drills, and abandon ship drills.

  • Supervise warehousing and storage of equipment and project materials.

  • Schedule personnel leave while maintaining operational efficiency and safety.

  • Plan future barge schedules with base office.

  • Take precautionary measures during deteriorating weather conditions.

  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, Code of Conduct, and HSE standards.

Educational Qualifications & Certifications

  • Secondary School Certificate with a discipline-specific technical qualification, or equivalent

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience in offshore construction barges (Jack-Up and Floating Barges) in the Oil & Gas industry

Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of floating/jack-up barge operations, derrick crane systems, rigging and lifting, anchor winches, engine room equipment, ballast & bilge systems, and offshore construction equipment.

  • Familiarity with offshore oil & gas construction standards.

  • Strong understanding of HSE procedures, OHSAS 18001, LOTO, first aid, hazardous materials handling, and waste management.

  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

  • Strong commercial/contractual awareness and negotiation skills.

  • Good report writing, organizational, and leadership skills with ability to motivate personnel.

  • Keen attention to detail.
